Anthems
for meetings & ceremonies

For chapter meetings and ceremonies — ready for the emcee to play. By custom for a Filipino-American assembly, the host country's anthem comes first.

For the Emcee

Order of protocol

  1. 1The Star-Spangled Banner — United States (host country)
  2. 2Lupang Hinirang — Philippines

Everyone stands and faces the flag, right hand over the heart. Lupang Hinirang is sung in Filipino, with all present singing (Republic Act No. 8491).

The Star-Spangled Banner

Francis Scott Key, 1814 · 1 min 18 sec

Recording: United States Navy Band, "Music for Honors and Ceremonies." Public domain (work of the U.S. federal government).

Lyrics (first verse)

O say can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there; O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

Lupang Hinirang

Julián Felipe (music, 1898) · José Palma (lyrics, 1899) · 0 min 54 sec, instrumental

Recording: University of Santo Tomas Wind Orchestra, courtesy of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. Public domain.

Land of the morning, child of the sun returning, with fervor burning, thee do our souls adore. Land dear and holy, cradle of noble heroes, ne'er shall invaders trample thy sacred shore. Beautiful land of love, O land of light, in thine embrace 'tis rapture to lie; but it is glory ever, when thou art wronged, for us, thy sons, to suffer and die.

“Non omnis moriar” — I shall not wholly die.

A quiet resource for chapter ceremonies.
